Peter and Jennifer Gentry of WWP Development initially received board approval in July 2021 for a three-story, mixed-use building with a deli, beer tap room, event space and Airbnb rental suite.

Given the increase in construction costs since then, zoning administrator Christopher Sullivan-Robinson said the original design was reduced to two stories and the rental suite on top was eliminated, so the revisions had to return to the board for approval.

Sullivan-Robinson said the building’s footprint and style of construction haven’t changed, with the building materials matching the original plans. Window sizes and locations have been modified in some areas, however, and balconies have been removed. He said the patio design was also modified to no longer include retaining walls.

The building will be accessible from two driveways off Maple Street and located next to the Door County Granary and the site of a planned apartment project.

Though no parking is required for commercial uses within the downtown area, Sullivan-Robinson said the driveway to the west will likely connect with an additional parking lot because parking is required for residential uses.
